The first day at trials, I could barely lift the 2kg dumbbell. I can clean press 20kg now, three months later. Through many check-ins and weigh-ins, they showed me that to see results I had to be patient and keep on trying and to not give. Sometimes you motivate yourself and sometimes you need that person telling you you can lift yet another kilo, or do two more squats, or go a little bit longer on the bike.
